Altarservers and Acolytes
The Sacred Heart Parish altar servers and acolytes form a diverse team dedicated to assisting in the liturgical ministry at all Masses. Generally, candidates are eligible to be trained as altar servers after receiving their First Holy Communion. Boys, Young men and adult men are especially encouraged to serve at the altar, with the hope that some may be inspired to consider a vocation to the priesthood.
The parish altar serving program encourages the highest standards of Catholic liturgy, to encourage the community’s participation in a fruitful worship of God that is reverent and prayerful. By being part of a positive team working together for the glory of God, altar servers also develop fellowship with other ministries, learning that work at the altar is prayer in action.

Catechist
The Catechist Program is a vital ministry dedicated to sharing the faith with young people in our local schools. Our team consists of 16 catechists who work together to deliver engaging and meaningful religious education. We currently serve 6 primary schools and 2 high schools, supporting students in their faith journey and fostering a deeper understanding of Catholic teachings.
Children's Liturgy of the Word
Our Children’s Liturgy of the Word is offered during the 10:00 am Sunday Mass for children from approximately 5 years of age to Year 3.
The aim of Children’s Liturgy is to help young children hear, understand and respond to the Word of God in a way that is appropriate for their age.
After the Collect (Opening Prayer), the children are invited to leave the church with their catechists and gather in a separate space. There, they listen to the Sunday Scripture readings and Gospel, presented and explained in a simple and engaging way.
The children are encouraged to reflect on God’s Word through prayer, discussion and age-appropriate activities related to the readings of that Sunday.
The children then return to the church for the Prayer of the Faithful, rejoining their families and the parish community to continue the celebration of Mass together for the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
